Workplace Rights & Protections

Employees in Alberta have rights that are protected by law. Workplaces should be safe and should be reasonably free of harassment. Employees have a right to a fair investigation at work. Employers are required to make a serious effort to prevent discrimination in the workplace for things like race, religion, skin colour, gender, pregnancy, disability, age, ancestry, marital status, source of income, family status or sexual orientation. Employers are also required to uphold their workers’ human rights by accommodating things in an employee’s life like religion, pregnancy, family status, physical or mental disability.
