Our Story

Bow River Law LLP was founded near the beginning of 2021. Our story goes back further.

Bow River Law’s founders Joel Fairbrother and Sarah Coderre met at University of Alberta as undergraduate students in 2006. Their educational and career paths have crisscrossed ever since, including legal articling at Bennet Jones and later working as employment lawyers together at another firm in Calgary before starting Bow River Law.

Bow River Law was founded in Calgary, Alberta! Bow River Law is a firm that lives and breathes employment law. Employment law is our focus and purpose. If you look at the legal services our firm offers, you will notice it is broad enough to cover almost any workplace legal issue, but narrow enough to avoid almost all other types of legal issues. If it involves employment law, it’s Bow River Law. If it involves some other kind of law, it’s a distraction to our focus and purpose.

Bow River Law and its lawyers have built a strong professional and legal reputation in the Alberta employment law community over the years since our founding.

The firm grew from its 2 founding employment lawyers in 2021 to 8 employment lawyers and 4 legal assistants in 2025. We may continue to grow in the coming years as well, because the demand for representation from our firm remains.
